Blue Screen (Superimposed Effects)
A "blue screen" is like an overlay, but in reverse - the cameras output is placed onto another image. Take a look at some of these examples - filmed on location indoors, not outside!:
The images were created by facing the camera towards a plain background (I pinned a plain sheet on the wall), selecting the sheet color as the blue screen and then assigning a desert image.
The results are not perfect - I didn't have any blue sheets, just red ones which tended to leave a few artifacts in my shadow - plus they wasn't quite big enough to fill the field of view - witness the wall showing through to the left, and in the bottom right hand corner!
Still , it's quite an amusing effect to setup and works well - if you can find a suitable background.
Another Example
You're not limited to indoor scenes, if you have a camera that points outdoors - look for large areas of the same colour that you may be able to alter.
Before:
After:
The plain overcast sky is switched for a coastal background. This work's live overlays but in reverse - instead of images being overlayed on top of the camera output, instead the camera output becomes the overlay.
This could have many uses - why not superimpose yourself into a luxury location for example, or pretend you're somewhere you're not...!
You're not just limited to outdoor views - if you are indoors and are sitting in front of a plain background you can easily transport yourself "outdoors" this way.
